Resin Paint vs Chalk Paint: What's the difference?

One of the most common questions we're asked about Rethunk Junk by Laura paint is:

"Is this a chalk paint?"

The short answer is no - and that's actually a good thing. While chalk paint was popular for years, Rethunk Junk's resin paint is an all-in-one formula that offers better durability & smoother finishes...with fewer steps. Once customers understand the difference, many decide that resin paint is a better fit for the way furniture actually gets used. Here's how they compare...

What is Resin Paint?

Rethunk Junk by Laura Resin Paint is a resin-infused acrylic paint designed to provide an all-in-one finish with excellent durability and a beautiful sheen.

That means most projects only require:
A good cleaning with The Prep cleaner, painting with one of the beautiful 54 Rethunk Junk Rein Paint colors, & some time to let the paint dry & harden.

No sanding. No waxing. No sealing.

Resin paint dries to a buttery finish that holds up to real life!

What is Chalk Paint?

Chalk paint is a decorative furniture paint that creates a flat, matte, vintage-style finish. It became popular because it sticks to many surfaces and is easy to distress, but chalk paint usually requires a wax topcoat, extra dry time, & long-term maintenance. Without a sealer, chalk paint scratches easily, absorbs stains & shows water marks.

For decorative pieces, chalk paint can work well, but for everyday furniture (and especially cabinets!) it usually falls short.

After working with many different furniture paint brands, I've learned that Rethunk Junk by Laura's Resin Paint consistently gives the best results with fewer steps AND better durability!
